6. Goose Creek Reservior

The protected wetland area in front of you is fed by the Goose Creek Reservoir and it was created by damming up a portion of Goose Creek, a tributary of the Cooper River. During the late 1800’s ther City of Charleston wanted a clean and reliable water source and the lush natural resources associated with Goose Creek have always attracted people. Native people hunted and fished here for thousands of years and during the 1700’s and 1800’s the creek fed many rice plantations operating in the area. By 1904 water from the Goose Creek Reservoir came under official use by the City of Charleston and has been a reliable source of water ever since.
